Harmony in Mind, Body & Spirit

Reflexology TreatmentThe Theory behind Reflexology

Reflexology is an ancient holistic therapy, which can be traced back over 4000 years to both China and Ancient Egypt.   Modern Reflexology, as we recognize it, was developed by Eunice Ingham in the 1930’s and based on Zone Therapy work.

Both Zone Therapy and Reflexology are based on the understanding that all parts of the body are connected by energy pathways, which end in the feet, hands and head.  Using this understanding, Eunice Ingham mapped reflex points on to the hands and feet, creating the Reflexology Maps that Reflexologists use today.  Reflex in the context of Reflexology means the reflection of all the organs, systems and structures of the body onto the hands and feet.  Reflexology is the practice of working these reflexes in a precise and systematic way.

The energy flow within our bodies can become congested and blocked due to illness and the stress and tension of everyday life.  This congestion of energy is reflected in these reflex points.  As a Reflexologist I gently, but firmly use my fingers and thumbs in a rhythmic massage movement to release congestion and dispel toxins.  Thus allowing the energy to flow freely and stimulate the body’s own healing process.

The Benefits of Reflexology

The aim of a Reflexology treatment is to stimulate all the body’s functions and systems to work to their maximum efficiency, aiming to :

  • help break down tension and alleviate stress
  • improve nerve function
  • improve blood supply and circulation
  • improve the removal of waste and elimination of toxins
  • boost the immune system
  • improve digestion
  • balance the hormone system
  • promote good quality sleep

Thus helping the body to kick start it’s natural healing process, promote relaxation, raise energy levels, enhance well-being and vitality.

Reflexology Treatments

Reflexology is an extremely safe and effective therapy, which is suitable for most people.  As the first step is to promote relaxation Reflexology is a wonderfully relaxing and calming treatment.

Before receiving your first Reflexology Treatment I will undertake a confidential, full medical and lifestyle consultation with you.  This is designed to help me understand what you would like me to treat and to help me develop a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to your unique needs.  Allow an hour and a half for your initial treatment and consultation.

All you need to do is remove your footwear and make yourself comfortable on the treatment couch.

At the end of the treatment I give you feedback about the treatment and my findings and we discuss any after care to support your continued healing.

I always start subsequent treatments by finding out how you have felt since the previous treatment and making any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan.

Hand Reflexology treatments are also available where appropriate.  We can discuss your requirements.

One of the most frequently asked questions is “How many treatments do I need?”  Depending on what we are treating and our agreed treatment plan I usually recommend a course of three or four weekly treatments to kick start an improvement in symptoms and thereafter a maintenance programme of treatment every month or 6 weeks.

A typical appointment will last up to 90 minutes, including an hour of Reflexology, a consultation prior to treatment and feedback / recommendations afterwards. Price £40.
